Behind the Scenes of Boal & Co's team headshots
Boal & Co needed a consistent set of team headshots for its website and wider communications, photographed at their Douglas office rather than in a studio.
The deciding factor was consistency. We built a studio at Marquis House and left it untouched for the whole session. Making use of the massive windows acting as a huge lightsource created a beautiful side light that wrapped around every member that posed, using 2 x LED continuous lights, both equiped with large parabolic soft boxes to fill the shadows and create some catch light in the eyes completed the lighting setup. The same distance, the same backdrop, for every member of staff. On a team page, inconsistency is the thing people notice first. One portrait lit differently to the rest reads as an afterthought, however good it is on its own.
Shooting on site also kept the day intact. 42 members of the team came through in short slots, a few minutes each, and were back at their desks straight after. For a business administering pensions for clients across four jurisdictions, that was worth more than anything a studio booking would have added.
The set was delivered cropped consistently for the website. Retouching was kept deliberately light. Professional services photography should look like the people who actually walk into the meeting.
Our role: Creative direction, lighting and on-location portrait photography for a professional services team.
