BTS: Julie Naylor Calls the Shots

Behind the Scenes of a World Down Syndrome Day Film.

When MyGym asked us to come and film, we'd heard they'd invited Danny and Julie along to try out the equipment. We couldn't not capture it. And with World Down Syndrome Day around the corner, it felt like the perfect fit.

We'd heard about Julie. A regular at The Meadow, Danny Kane's gym, she'd become something of a beloved figure, known for her commitment, her right hook, and most of all, her hugs. Danny had been training Julie at The Meadow for a while, and the two had formed a natural friendship along the way. Putting them in front of the camera together felt like a no-brainer. What we didn't anticipate was that she'd end up behind it too.

On the day, Julie arrived at MyGym and took charge, calling action, directing Danny, and at one point punching him clean to the ground. Our shoot producer Ella spent the day by her side, quietly narrating a shoot that none of us will forget in a hurry.
