The Big Picture
When 'off-the-shelf' is not an option
There's nothing like the Isle of Man TT anywhere else in the world. A unique racing event with an international following requires a bespoke live-timing system. In 2019 we worked alongside organisers to take racing coverage to the next level. It was a project that involved processing and presenting more data than ever before. Every rider, every race and every stage.
How do you receive 60 million packets of data in one race session and present it instantly to more than 100,000 concurrent users?
We put in place world-leading technology to connect to the internal tracking system of the TT races. Once that was established, we were able to translate, process and present massive amounts of data into a logical structure, designed to feed real-time results in a consistent and user-friendly way.
How do you make it easier to understand how a time trial works over six laps of a 37.72 mile mountain circuit?
Live timing means access to real-time radio broadcasts, comprehensive analysis, ticket information and official social media feeds
How do you give fans a bespoke TT coverage?
Riders can be pinned to the top of the board allowing fans to monitor the progress of their personal favourites around the entire TT course. Distinct section colour-coding also enables end-users to track riders at a glance. The 'Sector Analysis' section of TT Live Timing means fans can switch between seeing every sector of a rider's lap while the 'Leaderboard' facility provides live-standings at the end of every lap and every lap during qualifying.
Fastest overall laps and sectors, and a riders personal best times are highlighted in purple and green, respectively, while pit stop times are displayed instantaneously when a rider leaves the pits.
