Character and simplicity is at the core of our redesign of St John's Mill's website.
This project is a work of harmony, combining peaceful and composed design language with refreshing simplicity of function - restful to both eye and mind.
Although St John's Mill's previous website served them well, it was built in an era before content management systems and mobile responsiveness.
The site had become troublesome for Claire, the Duty Manager, to update and visitors were often overwhelmed by the volume of information.
Despite needing to provide a range of functions: displaying the advantages of the venue, permitting booking requests and accepting volunteer and partner applications – their new website had to be as welcoming as they are as well as intuitive to navigate.
So often in communication, simpler is better. Rather than clutter the site with a hectic display of information, we let visual language do the talking.
Large photography dominates the homepage, showing off the venue's sensitively restored building and enchanting wildflower meadow. As a counterpoint, small illustrative embellishments reinforce the homeliness and character of the the Mill's brand.
The end result is mobile friendly, unhurried and pleasing experience for the visitor, with clear calls to action on every touchpoint around the site.
Because the ease of updating the site's content was so important to Claire, we integrated our easy to use content management system and provided comprehensive training and follow-up support in its use.
Welcome, warmth and modernism are at the heart of this project. In fashioning a site that is visually charming, easily maintained and mobile responsive, we have provided St John's Mill's with the online presence it deserves.
