UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man is all about the active conservation of everything we’re proud of in the Isle of Man. They are working towards earning UNESCO status for the Island as a World UNESCO Biosphere Site.
Biosphere Reserves are areas across the globe that have been endorsed by UNESCO as outstanding places for nature and for people – places where there is a healthy balance between the two. This passion for the environment, our Island and it’s people had to be translated into their online presence and we were exceedingly happy to help them achieve this.
The website needed to reflect the Isle of Man as the stunning and unique natural environment it is, as well as being an information centre and online community for the local residents. Getting people involved in their community was one of the main aims of the website. The site therefore gives people lots of ideas on how to help or sign up to volunteer for local organisations. You can become a "Biosphere Buddy", search local events or simply upload your Island snaps that could be then featured on the site. All of these actions and more add to the community spirit the site was trying to accomplish.
Biosphere also supplied a large image bank of Isle of Man pictures from a competition they had held previously. The entries from residents and photographers around the Island were exceptional. These beautiful images led the design style and was paired with an organic colour palette to create an engaging design. Facts and statistics, informational videos and news are located around the site to reinforce and inform visitors of the Biosphere mission.
With such a focus on quality images and user submissions, we set about building a content management system that would allow Biosphere to manage photo submissions and the rich content on the site with ease.
Visitors can feel apart of the project by submitting their photographs of the Isle of Man or by becoming a Buddy. User interaction is incredibly important when trying to raise awareness for a project like this. Allowing for these interactions on the website means that Biosphere can inform and reach out to a larger audience.
We feel privileged to have worked on such a worthwhile project for the Isle of Man. We are sure the local community will get on board and the new website will facilitate this activity.
